HIDDEN FALLS REGIONAL PARK
Hidden Falls Regional Park is the first park envisioned by Placer County’s Legacy program, adopted in 2000. In 2003-2004, the County acquired the current 1,200 acre Hidden Falls Regional Park (HFRP), which has 30 miles of multi-use trails and one major trailhead with parking.
Located between Auburn and Lincoln, Hidden Falls Regional Park Phase I (Didion Ranch) opened in October 2006. The Project includes an open space park which features seven miles of trails suitable for hiking, running, biking and horseback riding. In addition, visitors can enjoy fishing, picnicking, wildlife viewing, photography and other passive recreational pursuits. A paved, ADA-accessible trail, parking lot, equestrian staging area and restrooms are also available.
Placer County and Placer Land Trust have collaborated to acquire over 2,500 acres of additional land and easements to protect oak woodlands and rangelands, and for the Hidden Falls Expansion Project to add 30 miles of public trails and new trailheads. This Project was included in the Draft SEIR dated February 2020 which was submitted as a first-ever county wide Parks and Trails Master Plan to the Board of Supervisors. The Plan provided a 20-year-and-beyond vision for the development and operation of parks, recreation opportunities, open space and trail networks in the county.
On March 8, 2021, due to public comment, economics and other factors, Placer County submitted a Reduced Project as a compromise between (1) the Full Project evaluated in the original SEIR, and (2) elimination of the project as sought by neighborhood opponents.
In September 2024, the Placer County Board of Supervisors approved the solicitation for bids and the resulting execution of a contract for the Hidden Falls Regional Park Trails Expansion Project Phase 2.
There will be two new bridges over Raccoon Creek connecting the current Hidden Falls Park to the Land Trust Preserves. The proposed Trail Construction Project includes a trail connection from the Bell Road parking area to the existing River Otter Loop Trail within HFRP. Phase 2 is expected to be open to the public in the fall of 2025.
